Marine Debris

Cleaner shores. Stronger coastal communities. Our marine debris work combines coastal cleanups with practical solutions for collecting, transporting, and managing waste, especially in remote areas where infrastructure is limited. In the United States and Indonesia, we work with local communities to shape solutions around their knowledge, needs, and participation.

Community Microloans

Small investments that help local ideas grow. MRM’s microloan initiative supports small coastal businesses that promote marine conservation and celebrate local culture. We focus on local ownership, manageable costs, and reinvesting earnings to help businesses grow.

Art for Science

Bring the ocean home and help support its future. Art for Science gives ocean artists a platform to share their work, tell their stories, and explore the inspiration behind what they create. Through art, we connect people with marine life and the places that inspire its conservation and sustainable use. Purchases support participating artists and MRM’s work for healthier oceans and stronger coastal communities.

Our Story

Marine Resource Management brings together science, community, and creativity to support healthy oceans and thriving coastal communities. Our mission is to connect research and local knowledge with practical action that conserves marine environments and supports the people who depend on them.

Our history began in 1989, with charitable tax-exempt status established in 1993. Through the Seafood Consumer Center and Community Seafood Initiative, we supported coastal businesses with seafood education, workshops, and business development. Those efforts helped provide more than $2 million in investments and loans to coastal seafood companies, establishing a lasting connection between marine resources and local livelihoods.

In 2005, we joined fishermen, scientists, and resource managers in Project CROOS, using genetic information and catch-location data to better understand salmon stocks and inform fisheries management. In 2008, a seafood traceability pilot with Newport albacore fishermen brought that research into the marketplace, connecting seafood with its origin and the people who caught it.

In 2013, launched Fish Trax Systems, Inc. Working with Oregon State University, the Oregon Salmon Commission, Advanced Research Corporation, and Ariel Seafoods, we developed FishTrax Marketplace to connect fishermen, seafood businesses, and consumers. The platform remains active today under Ariel Seafoods management (Explore FishTrax).

In 2026, we reorganized as Marine Resource Management and broadened our work across marine conservation, coastal livelihoods, education, and the arts, focusing on projects in the United States and abroad. This expansion carries forward a commitment that has guided the organization for decades: bringing people, knowledge, and practical tools together to support healthy marine environments and resilient coastal communities.
